Zambuko Trust began in 1992 with a mission to be a bridge between the marginalized and unemployed and the opportunities for enterprise and income generation in Zimbabwe. It offers group co-guaranteed loans and individual loans backed by guarantors to individuals who are not employed fulltime elsewhere and who have a microenterprise that is at least six months old that is deemed financially viable. Zambuko consists of two legal entities with two Boards of Directors, which operate as one in practice. They are The Gesher Trust, a non-profit organization that receives donor funds and is registered with the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare, and Zambuko Trust, a private limited company that has a money lenders’ license and is registered with the Ministry of Finance.
