Kabalikat Para Sa Maunlad Na Buhay, Inc. (KMBI)

KMBI (Partner for a Progressive Life) started in 1985 as a church-based ministry with 37 clients. In 1986, it registered in the Philippines’ Securities and Exchange Commission as a development foundation. By the end of 2003, it closed the year with more than 29,000 clients and seven branches. In the following year, KMBI undertook a massive expansion with the launch of 17 branches and reached out to 85,457 women microentrepreneurs. Today, through its 37 branches across Southern and Central Luzon and Southern Mindanao offering financial products (such as group loan, capital build-up, and microinsurance), enterprise development services, and other socio-spiritual interventions, KMBI is serving more than 121,000 clients. More than the sustainability of its microfinance operations, KMBI aims to see changed lives as it facilitates integral transformation programs. Aside from expanding its list of financial products (i.e. offering individual loan and housing microfinance in 2008), it is fortifying its enterprise development services, particularly the delivery of capacity building and community-based enterprise development programs. To do this, KMBI is seeing itself diversified into banking, training, and microfinancing by the end of 2011, with the NGO as the holding entity. In the same year, on its 25th year of existence, KMBI is expecting to have reached a minimum of 250,000 clients or 1 million changed lives.
