The Bridge Foundation (TBF) started its economic and training programs in Bangalore, India, in 1984 as a non-governmental organization and joined the Opportunity International Network in 1986. In 2001, TBF began its transition into a formal financial institution through the purchase of a non-banking finance company (NBFC) called Opportunity Microcredit India Ltd. (OMI). OMI was established with the objective of delivering financial services to the poor throughout India. Clients are predominantly located in the outskirts of India’s largest cities, in the secondary cities, and even in the rural communities. Its clientele includes the working and laboring poor, the self-employed poor, and the entrepreneurial poor.
