In 2002, Opportunity International has, with USAID's assistance, founded Opportunity Savings Bank Serbia (OIS) seated in Novi Sad, the capital of Serbia’s province of Vojvodina and second largest city in the country. After receiving banking license from the National Bank of Serbia in late April 2007, Opportunity Saving Bank Sad has transformed to Opportunity Bank Serbia (OBS). The bank is 100% devoted toward the provision of micro and SME loans to “under-banked” entrepreneurs in Serbia. OBS employs an aggressive lending policy and targets clients who are seen as a higher credit risk. Opportunity remains one of the few providers of credit to Serbia’s most vulnerable groups, refugees and internally displaced persons, and is the only bank in Serbia providing loans for start-up enterprises. OBS lending officers disburse loans from 500 to 200,000 EUR to every business sector to meet working capital or fixed asset purchase needs. At the end of 2006, OBS had 3,400 active clients and a portfolio of 8.0 million EUR. To that date, the bank made 10,400 loans totaling nearly 27 million EUR, thus opening 3,380 new jobs and sustaining 27,000 existing ones. Since its foundation till now, Opportunity Bank’s portfolio has been exceptional. OBS constantly maintains client repayment rate of over 99 %.
