The Institute for Honduran Development (IDH) works in one of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere. Over half of its population of 6.5 million live below the poverty line. IDH makes a special effort to reach the Garifuna people of African-Honduran descent who live along the coast. These people are routinely marginalized and rejected, and IDH is the only microfinance institution that services this population.
