Opportunity International Latin America (OILA)

Opportunity International is working with Opportunity Colombia (OILA), a non-profit agency, to meet the requirements to become a commercial finance company. As a commercial finance company focused on the poor, Opportunity Colombia will serve as a vehicle for the provision of financial services to the underserved poor, especially focusing on the rural poor.

Opportunity is reaching out to Colombia's poorest by establishing "Puntos de Servicio y Venta" - PSVs (translated, Points of Service and Sale) in rural and remote communities where the most vulnerable families live without access to financial services. A PSV is a stand-alone kiosk, staffed by one Opportunity employee, placed in markets in rural areas on the northern coast of Colombia. The first three PSVs were established in 2008 in small communities south of Cartagena. A fourth kiosk is scheduled to open in July in the town of Magdalena. Opportunity Colombia expects to launch 58 PSVs nationally by 2015.
