Investment Services

Investment Services, led by Ken Vander Weele, manages the distribution and securitization of large-scale debt and equity funding for Implementing Partners.  This division also handles start-up and acquisitions. Opportunity’s Investment Services aims to look beyond donations to loans and equity investments in order to propel its members to higher outreach levels. To facilitate these new financial instruments, Opportunity International is building top quality banks, creating new financing vehicles, and pursuing capital markets.

 

Opportunity Transformation Investments – serves as the investment vehicle of Opportunity International and holds equity in Opportunity banks around the world.

 

The Opportunity Loan Guarantee Fund – an $11.3 million fund raised by a private placement of debt securities, serves as collateral for securing loans to microfinance institutions in their local currency.

 

The Balkan Financial Equity Fund - Opportunity is serving as the Fund’s sponsor, which closed at 25 million EUR ($32 million) to expand financial services throughout the region.

 

MFLO – Opportunity, Symbiotics and the European Investment Fund have partnered to create a 28 million EUR ($35.8 million) microfinance securitization – Microfinance Loan Obligations S.A. (MFLO) – to finance Opportunity banks throughout Eastern Europe.

 

BLUE ORCHARD SECURITIZATIONSAlbania and Russia were selected to participate in this program of $106 million for 22 microfinance institutions around the world.

 

Opportunity Transformation Investments – created to properly manage loans and equity investments in 2001 and Opportunity Microfinance Investments, Ltd. (OMIL) in 2003. In 2004, OTI and OMIL were lending over $2.2 million to 11 Opportunity Partners and had equity worth $22.2 million invested in 9 Partners.
