Welcome to my blog

Friends, welcome to my new blog. I’ve been on the job for 5 months now, and am looking forward to sharing my view of Opportunity over the coming weeks.

Travel Update
My aim in these early days is to visit as many Network Members as possible. So far, I’ve been to Tanzania, Kenya, Malawi, Chennai, South Africa and Ghana (visiting both OISL and SAT), and joined board meetings of Opportunity Australia,  US, and the UK .   I’ve been able to participate in the global HR conference,  the Risk and Audit offsite, and the recent Emerging Leaders training program.  Before the end of the year I will travel to the US for the Opportunity Network Board meeting,  then travel on to Colombia to visit our business there.

A Global Community
As I make my way around the Opportunity world, I’m reminded how big it is. Did you know that if you work for an Opportunity Network member organisation, then you are part of a global community of over 12,000 people in 45 organisations serving more than 5 million Opportunity clients in 28 countries? Wow!

Stay In Touch
That’s why I’ve set up this blog. I’m proud to be part of this Opportunity Community and will do my best to share with you news, ideas, triumphs and challenges from across the Opportunity world.

In return, I’d like to ask you to do 3 things:

  1. Sign for weekly email updates by clicking here. We’ll send you a short email each week summarising the latest posts and dicussions.
  2. Add your voice to the conversation. I’d encourage you to comment on the posts and other comments that most interest you. Let’s get a discussion going!
  3. Send me ideas for future posts. If you have some Opportunity news you’d like to share with the wider community, let me know.

For now, why not introduce yourself to the Opportunity world by clicking on the ‘Comment’ link below?

It’s nice to hear from you, Harry. As I go about my fundraising work in the Oak Brook, IL office, I look forward to connecting with the greater Opportunity community. I’d love to hear about celebrations, challenges, new things offered, what keeps the implementing members “up at night” and what makes them smile. Thank you!

    The blog is great.
Just returned from 2 weeks with Opportunity Finance in South Africa. It is inspiring to see what both our clients and staff are accomplishing in that country. The support from Opportunity International is much appreciated.

Harry, congratulations on launching this innovative initiative. I am confident it will serve as a network forum for constructive dialoguing and debating on topical program and organizational issues.. It will also help to strengthen relationship- and thought-building.

  • Brady Josephson

Thanks for this Harry. What a great idea. One of the things I love most about Opportunity is the global nature and scale of our work but when you are sitting behind a desk in Vancouver sometimes that gets lost. This should be a fantastic way to keep up with you and others around the world! Very neat.

    Hi Harry,

It seems to me an excellent idea, allowing us all to share experience and learn from each other and support us.That is the strength of belonging to a network.

    Thanks

Thanks Harry! This promises to be a wonderful way to provide insights into our partners daily work and challenges, and a great learning forum for the entire Opportunity staff and family, as we all do our part to serve this bold mission.
