
Adrian Merryman
Chief Executive Officer
Adrian’s affiliation with Opportunity International began in 2002 when he traveled to Malawi and Zambia on an Insight Trip. Upon retirement from the commercial world in late 2003 to pursue a lifelong dream of serving the poor, he supported Opportunity’s efforts in Russia and Honduras, also becoming acquainted with programs in the Philippines, Nicaragua, Montenegro and Macedonia. In October 2004, Adrian joined Opportunity to serve as Chief Operating Officer, and in late 2006 was asked to serve as Chief Executive Officer.
Adrian’s 25-year career spans a number of disciplines, countries and responsibilities. Following business school he went to work as an investment banker for Merrill Lynch & Co. and then CIBC Oppenheimer Corp. where he worked throughout Latin America before serving as Head of European Investment Banking. Upon leaving investment banking Adrian became Chief Executive Officer of Temenos System S.A., a Geneva based leader in the global banking software industry. Thereafter, he served as Chief Investment Officer of Interregnum plc, a UK based technology focused venture capital firm. In his final commercial role, Adrian served as Chief Executive Officer of Screen plc, a UK-based technology company focused on security, surveillance, defense and transportation. He has also served on the boards of numerous companies and non-profit ministries in Europe and the United States.
Adrian holds an MBA from the Harvard Business School and is a graduate of Swarthmore College with degrees in Political Science and Economics. Adrian lives with his wife Jennifer and their three children in Boston, Massachusetts.
