Rick John
Senior Vice President, CFO
Rick John is the Chief Financial Officer for Opportunity International. He directs Opportunity’s financial planning, treasury and accounting practices as well as its relationship with lending institutions, donors, and the financial community.
Prior to beginning his work with Opportunity International in 1996, Rick held a number of managerial and accounting positions. From 1973 to 1978 Rick worked as the Supervising Senior Auditor for Price Waterhouse. In 1978 he began his career with Amoco Corporation and worked there until he came to Opportunity in 1996. Within his time at Amoco Corporation Rick worked with several of Amoco’s companies. He was the Accounting Manager for the Amoco Oil Company in Chicago and soon became the Staff Director for Amoco’s Corporate Consolidated Budgets and Control Reports, also based in Chicago. In 1987 Rick was the Plant Finance and Administration Manager for the Amoco Chemical Company in Chocolate Bayou, Texas and was able to increase productivity of plant staff by 5%, reduce plant inventories by 10%, and increase the plant throughput by 20%. In 1989 he held the position as the CFO and Controller and Administration Manager for Amoco Polymers, Inc. in Atlanta, Georgia where he saved $22 million through cost reduction efforts over a two-year period. His final position with the Amoco Corporation was as the Process Reengineering Manager with Corporate Purchasing and Amoco Shared Services in Chicago.
Rick has a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin in Madison and a Master of Business Administration from Northwestern University. He is a Certified Public Accountant, a member of Financial Executives Institute, AICPA, and Institute of Management Accountants. He was listed in Who’s Who in Finance and Industry and has been a featured presenter at industry conferences and seminars. Rick and his wife Carolyn live in Wheaton with their two daughters and son.
