Maternidad Daliva

Prior to her involvement with Opportunity, Maternidad (“Matty”) Daliva ran a mini grocery shop. She and her husband, Frank, struggled to raise five children on the proceeds of that business. Now, six years and nine small business loans later, Matty not only owns her little store at the front of her home near Roxas City in the philippines, but she also sells bamboo and driftwood. She even sells pigs that she raises in her backyard. Matty’s latest venture involves making homemade barquillios, a delicate, crisp snack that she sells in three nearby towns.

With her income, Matty has sent all of their children and a niece to school (with four having graduated from college) and has cared for her ill sister. For four years, Matty has served as leader of her Opportunity Trust Bank group, which enjoys a 100-percent repayment rate.
